ITU Triathlon World Championships, Vancouver 2008
Thank you everyone for the good luck card, I’m taking it with me to put on display in our (very posh) hotel room. The BBC should be televising the event but I don’t know when exactly. The time difference means that the elites go off late afternoon/early evening our time. Basically the event runs over a few days:
Thursday 5th June Juniors
Friday 6th June Sprint distance age groupers
Saturday 7th June Standard distance age groupers (that’s me) and AWAD
Sunday 8th June U23s and Elites
The Standard distance is 1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run – 3 to 3.5 hours of beautiful Canadian scenery! There are 53 entries in my age category (F55-59) and we are due to start at 8.15am (2.15pm here), along with 38 F60-64s, 12 F65-69, 7 F70-74s and 1 F75-79!!! Total wave start of 111 old tri-birds!!!
You can see a ‘tricast live’ at www.triathlon.org and more information (videos of the routes etc if you’re interested) on www.triathlonvancouver.com which is the website for the event.

Please forward any articles, photo's, gossip, news, reviews etc to
Nicky for inclusion in the next newsletter by 30th April (nicola-norris@hotmail.co.uk).
It doesn't need to be a literary masterpiece - a few sentences will do! It also
doesn't have to be a race report - articles on social events, recollections of
comedy moments on the bus to and from London, or anything else relevant to the
club are all welcome. Thank you to those of you who have already sent articles
through. Keep them coming...
Hart Triathlon: Monday May 5th (Bank Holiday Monday)
We are looking for volunteers to help marshal at this event. London Marathon Entries 2009
The entry process for next year is different to previous years. Most of the entries are being allocated through an on-line ballot & you have to be quick to even get in the ballot. The on-line ballot already has 80,000 applications & is closed at the moment. It reopens on 21st April at 9am when they'll accept another 35,000 requests to be in the ballot.
There will only be 5,000 paper ballot entries available. This suggests they'll stop accepting paper ballot applications once they've reached 5,000.There's a telephone number to pre-register for a paper ballot entry form.
Moral seems to be get moving if you want to apply for London next year!!!
See extract from the marathon website below.
Due to an overwhelming response Phase 1 of the Flora London Marathon 2009 online entry ballot has now closed. The limit of 80,000 applicants was reached at 10pm on Monday 14 April.
Phase 2 (the remaining 35,000 places in the online ballot and 5,000 paper ballot entries for runners who are unable to enter online) will open on Monday 21 April at 9am. Paper ballot entry forms, for those unable to enter online, are available by pre-registering with the London Marathon helpdesk on 020 7902 0200 from Monday.
Below is the link for 9.00am on Monday.

A huge thank you to all competitors, car park marshals, course marshals and catering team for making the Hart Cross Country event such a fantastic success. Well done to the committee, in particular Nigel and Spindle, who put in so much work. Add to this a 4th place for the men’s team and 7th for the ladies’ giving us a 6th overall and we couldn’t be more pleased. We will have to wait for the league placings but we think we may have moved up one or two places overall. Full report to follow in Runtastic and on the website.

Sunday 9/9/07 Alice Holt 10K and Family Picnic
There will be a family B.Y.O picnic (let this be the first one this year not to be rained off!) and also Bob Leppard has kindly offered to give some basic orienteering training after this race for anyone who is interested. There is a permanent orienteering course there and he intends to walk around teaching people how to set the map to a compass, pace distances and get a feel for the symbols, colours etc. on the map. Participants should bring a compass if they have one, although he has a few spare compasses that he will bring along for those without. Maps should be on sale from the shop (usually about £1 each). The undergrowth is somewhat unpleasant within most of the forest so leg protection is essential (i.e. no shorts). If anyone wants to get more involved in orienteering then he is happy to accompany them on one of the many Southern Navigators events during this autumn/winter.

Dear All,
As you may know I am running a few long events at the moment – in preparation for my main event of 2007 the Grand Union Canal Race (GUCR) which is 145mile. http://www.gucr.co.uk/
I am looking for some support for this race ……. especially the second half when I am allowed buddy runners. My pace should be between 5.30 and 6hr marathon pace by this stage – inc some walking breaks. There are detailed notes on the route and even notes for support crew on website link attached.
If you are around that weekend (which unfortunately is a bank holiday weekend) and are able to help as a runner, or driver for support runners, or coordinator ………. then please have a look at the website link above and drop me a note, or collar me on a training night. javed.bhatti@biofisica.com
PS.
This coming weekend I am running the Jurassic Coast (75m) as part of my prep for GUCR. If anyone wants to come along and join me for a ‘scenic’ night section (Saturday night) ….. give me a shout.

A Note from Sheila…
I have recently spoken to the leisure centre manager and there is going to be a massive refurbishment of the centre. I have been informed that when it is complete there will be no bar. This is quite serious for us. What do we do on Thursdays after running? Will they still let us use the showers etc?
This needs to be discussed by the club and suggestions for alternative venues to be put to the committee. After all we need somewhere that does food and drink and has room for us. Something for everyone to think about.
Cross Country
A reminder that the next race of the season is on Sunday 18th February at Manor Farm Country Park, starting at 11am.
For a map and directions please take a look at Stubbington Green's website as they are the organizing club.
I am aware that some of our usual lady runners in particular, are unable to be at this race (half term!) so do come along if you can and help the club to maintain its winning ways! If you wish to car share please meet at the Leisure Centre at 9.15am.
The last race of the series is on March 11th at Staunton Country Park but unfortunately this coincides with the Fleet Half. So if you don't fancy the half then the cross country will be a great alternative!
HRR AGM
This will be held on Friday March 2nd at Crookham Street Social Club at 8pm. If you have any questions that you wish to raise at the AGM could you please put them in writing to John Errington (johnerrington@lineone.net)
